Class I

Study Objectives:

- Learn the school rules and follow them
- Get to know classmates and their names and play with them
- Develop interest in Hiragana

Learning Activities:

- Sing and dance along the fall songs
- Autumn craft with origami and leaves
- Hiragana flashcards

Vocabulary and Expressions:

- Collect words including A, I, U, E, O
- Learn the right stroke order of words and write them neatly

Class II

Study Objectives:

- Learn how to greet properly in Japanese
- Get to know classmates and their names and play with them
- Learn words that describe size of objects

Learning Activities:

- Greeting game, name game
- Learn words that describe size of objects

Vocabulary and Expressions:

- Ohayougozaimasu (Good morning) / Konnichiwa (Hello) / Sayounara ( Good bye )

Class III

Study Objectives:

- Learn how to write classmates' names
- Develop interest in Halloween
- Learn the signs inside the school

Learning Activities:

- Bingo ( using classmate's names)
- Learn about pumpkin seeds
- Explore inside the school and learn the signs, and make some signs by themselves

Vocabulary and Expressions:

- Learn how to write voiced sound, long vowel, double consonants, and diphthong
- Learn about pumpkin seeds
- Learn the difference between は/わ, を/お, and へ/え

A - l

Study Objectives:

- Through OKASHIYASHIKI event (the Candy House event), learn how to carry conversation in Japanese at the store
- Learn how to write promotional flyer & thank you letter to customers in Japanese

Learning Activities:

- Play "Omiseyasan-game". Break up the class into two groups: customers & store clerk.
- Make posters for the store announcements & thank you notes.

Vocabulary and Expressions:

- Vocabulary -
Learn the categorical names (fish, vegetable, snacks, fruits and etc) and
individual names (mackerel, daikon, caramel, melon and etc)
- Grammar and Expressions -
Learn the phases necessary for retain store: welcome, thank you very much, what is this?, how much is it? What is the total? Your total is $___. and etc

A - ll

Study Objectives:

- Learn how to carry conversation in Japanese at the store ( as a customer and as a worker )
- Write a letter seeking for candy donation, and a thank you letter for the donation.
- Learn the difference between normal sentence and the sentence with word segmentation, and learn how to read materials paying attention to punctuation.

Learning Activities:

- Plan how to fundraise for Okashiyashiki event (the Candy House event) and seek candy donation
- Sell candy at the Candy House
- Count the proceeds from sale
- Learn how to count the kanji stroke ( material " Baby animals")

- Vocabulary -
wakachigaki (word segmentation), kutouten (punctuation), ondoku (read aloud), gimonbun (interrogative sentence), and more….

Study Objectives:

- Read about the origin and background of Halloween and explain to the class
- Learn the relationship between nature and human society
- Observe nature and think about what we can do to protect nature and living things in our society
- Learn how to summarize the reading material

Learning Activities:

- Read about Halloween
- Read "Sakurasou to Toramaruhanabachi (Primrose and Bombus diversus)"
- Ask grown-ups about how the city looked and what kind of living things existed in the past and make a comparison with the present.
- Discuss with classmates regarding what we can do to protect nature and the living things that exist now

- Explain to the class regarding what you have researched
- Okashiyashiki event
- - - Play a role as a leader in the group divided with different ages and help younger students
- - - Analyze how your group performe during the event and write a report with thoughts and reflections

Learning Activities:

- Think about how you and your family live and become conscious how your daily choice affect the environment
- Observe the living things around your neighborhood or the area near KNI, and ask grown-ups how things has changed compared with the past
- Make a pair and discuss the cause of the change, and make a presentation to the class
- Read a couple of paragraphs regarding how the living things around you relate to the human society and the Earth
