Theme of this month: Halloween

Class I


Goals

- To get to know how to use equipments of this school, and be able to follow the school rules
- To be able to remember classmates’ names, and have fun playing together
- To be able to get interested in Hiragana.

Class Activities

- To have fun singing an autumn song by following its rhythm
- To make autumn-theme-crafts with falling leaves and origami
- To be familiar with Hiragana letters, utilizing Hiragana flush cards.

Grammar and Vocabularies

- To gather words starting with letter A, I, U, E, O, and to learn right stroke orders of these letters and how to write them neatly.

Class II


Goals

- To be able to greet each other with loud and vigorous voice.
- To be able to remember classmates’ names and have fun playing together.
- To be able to enjoy Halloween events and the Okashi-yashiki
- To be able to write Dakuon and han-dakuon letters perfectly.

Class Activities

- To understand the differences between Dakuon and Han-dakuon by seeing and hearing Japanese language through a games and role-playings

Grammar and Vocabularies

- Ohayoo gozaimasu, konnichiwa, sayounara, arigatou, ikura, kore o kudasai, etc.
- Ga Gi Gu Ge Go, Pa Pi Pu Pe Po etc.

Class III

Goals

- To be able to know classmates’ names, and participate in class activities with a friendly manner
- Exploration of the school
- The halloween Okashi-yashiki

Class Activities

- To get to know classmates’ names through name-bingo, name-exchange and other games
- To be able to understand signs and names of school equipments by exploring inside and outside of the school
- To enjoy the Halloween Okashi-yashiki as customers

Grammar and Vocabularies

- Differences between ha/ wa , wo/o, he/e
- To get to know the names of the equipments and warning signs.
- “kore kudasai”. “ikura desu ka?”

A-I


Goals

- To communicate utilizing the Japanese expressions, which are usually used between a seller and a customer
- To write Japanese sentences which contains the seller’s information, with the purpose of leading a lot of people to come and buy candies at the Okashi-yashiki
- To get familiar with upper grade students through the Okashi-yashiki

Class Activities

- To conduct the Okashi-yashiki with upper grade students in groups
- To make posters for the Okashi-yashiki
- To make eco-bags for the Okashi-yashiki customers, utilizing recycled papers

Grammar and Vocabularies

- “irassyaimase”, “arigatou gozaimashita” “kore wa nan desu ka?” “zenbu de ikura desu ka?” “zenbu de XX sento desu.” Etc.
- names of sweets’ categories (eg. Chocolate, candy etc.) and individual sweets’ names (eg. Hershey’s, Kitkat, Chupa-chups etc.)

Goals

- Speaking: To be able to have Japanese conversation between sellers and customers
- Writing: To learn how to include date and place on an invitation
- To be able to perform class activities by understanding the Japanese expressions of order and words of direction.

Class Activities

- To join the meetings for the Okashi-yashiki.
- To make an invitation card.
- To make a Thank you card.
- To make an eco-bag.

Grammar and Vocabularies

- “~ni kite kudasai”.
- “… tte, .”
- Kanjis used for Okashi-yashiki activities, such as “uru”, “kau”, “jikan”, “basyo”, etc.
- To calculate earnings from the Okashi-yashiki (“awasete” “minna de” “… ni narimasu.) etc.

Goals

- To understand the story of Halloween and be able to explain it verbally.
- To be able to write a letter asking donations for the Okashi-yashiki and a thank you letter.
- To be able to understand the places of 12 countries, which we are going to learn from Hungry Planet, on the world map.

Class Activities

- To read passages regarding Halloween.
- The Okashi-yashiki
- Hungry Planet (world map, world weather etc.)

Grammar and Vocabularies

- Urine, rieki, irai, kansya, okashi, kihu, tengoku, jigoku, inochi, tairiku, touzainannboku etc.
- “~darouka”, “~to kizuita.” Etc.

A-IV


Goal

- To conduct group works for the Okashi-yashiki
- To be able to teach how to make an eco-bag, step by step, to lower grade students
- To get familiar with Japan geography
- To get to know the brief Japanese history from Meiji period to the end of WWII (we will study this topic till Thanksgiving holidays)

Class Activities

- Group activities with lower grades students
- Hungry Planet (to make a connection between the location where we have visited before and its climate)
- Preparation for a speaker, Ms. Kazu Sueishi, who will be visiting us to talk about her experience of Hiroshima, as an atomic bomb victim.

Grammar and Vocabularies

- To type in Japanese about what we learned in class, then send it to the instructor (this is one of homework every week); to compare the correction and the original, so that students can gain abilities of making better Japanese sentences

- Gienkin, Shien, etc.
