March Theme: Hinamatsuri
Class I
Goals:
- To be able to know the history of “Momo no Sekku” and to be interested in Hinamatsuri.
- To be able to enjoy singing a song at Class Performance Day
- To be able to write learned letters with the strong pencil pressure.
Class Activities:
- To learn the Origami basics by making Hinamatsuri origami crafts
- To know the words related to Hinamatsuri
- To practice a song for Class Performance Day with dance, in order to sing the song on own initiatives.
Grammar and Vocabularies:
- Ohina-sama, Odairi-sama, etc.
- To gather words starting with letter MA, MI, MU, ME, MO and to learn right stroke orders of these letters and how to write them neatly

Class II
Goals:
- To know the history of Hinamatsuri and enjoy it.
- To be able to present “kaeru no uta” with a loud voice at Class Performance Day.
- To get familiar with words related to movements and to be able to use them.
Class Activities:
- To make Hinaningyou by Origami crafts of Obina and Mebina.
- To practice the performance with a loud and strong voice for Class Performance Day
Grammar and Vocabularies:
- Hinamatsuri, Hinaarare, Obina, Mebina
- Hashiru, aruku, hoeru, nigeru etc.

Class III
Goals:
- To practice the performance for Class Performance Day with own initiatives.
- To make Hinaningyou utilizing Origami papers
- To enjoy making sentences which contain “who, where, with whom, what”
Class Activities:
- To remember own lines for Class Performance Day
- To make Obina and Mebina by origami papers
- To make simple sentences by putting some words together
Grammar and Vocabularies:
- Sankakkei, yamaori, taniori,
- Odairi-sama, ohina-sama, bonbori, hishimochi, hinaarare, byoubu, etc.

JFL morning class
Goals:
- To be able to use the right “receiving and giving” expressions
- To be able to say the lines for the performance fluently.
Class Activities:
- To make a final draft for Class Performance Day presentation, and to think how to say in Japanese, regarding what we want to say.
- To learn Japanese conversation flows by completing the preparation for Class Performance Day presentation.

JFL Afternoon Class
Goals:
- To be able to say the ordinary events in Japanese
- To be able to say those events with time
- To be able to work nicely with others
Class Activities:
- To check own everyday behaviors and to compare them with Japanese
- To repeat practices through games
- To make practices for Class Performance Day
Grammar and Vocabularies:
- Okimasu, shichiji ni okimasu, Kutsu o hakimasu, kutsu o hakimasen, etc.

A1
Goals:
- For all of the students to be able to say Japanese with a loud and strong voice at Class Performance Day
- To be able to pronounce the words which contains voiced consonants, geminate consonants, long sounds, and/or palatalized syllables
- To be able to answer questions when asked.
Class Activities:
- To perform at Class Performance Day
- To remember short stories by heart, such as “kaki to kagi”, “neko to nekko”, :obasan to obaasan”, omochiya to omocha”.
- To response with “hai” and stand up when own name is called, and answer the question.
Grammar and Vocabularies:
- Nuku, arau, omosa, nagasa o hakaru, tsukeru etc.
- “Hatsuka daikon o hatake kara nuku”, “hatsuka daikon o mizu de arau” “hakari de hatsuka daikon no omosa o hakaru”, “makijyaku de hatsuka daikon no nagasa o hakaru”, “hai”, “desu” etc.

Goals:
- To be able to pronounce Japanese, being aware of words’ intonations
- To be able to express the characters’ feelings when reading conversations
- To be able to listen to classmates’ story quietly
- To be able to use leaned kanji to picture-diaries and book reports
Class Activities:
- To practice the lines of the play “the golden goose” for Class Performance Day
- To read an explanation story, “sugata o kaeru daizu”.
- To capture the flow of the story utilizing conjunction words
Grammar and Vocabularies:
- Serifu, kaiwabun, mazu, tsugini, soshite, syokuji, tyouri, mainiti, syokuhin, etc.

Goals:
- To understand and be familiar with Hinamatsuri event.
- To be able to explain the group’s focus regarding Tohoku earthquake verbally
- To consider “snacks” utilizing Hungry Planet.
Class Activities:
- To read the history of Hinamatsuri and to get to know about the meanings.
- To research and make a presentation about Tohoku earthquake
- To research own favorite snacks, snacks people used to eat, and snacks which are good for our health.
Grammar and Vocabularies:
- Kokurui, kudamono, choomiryoo, nomimono, yatai, sozai etc.
- ~no keikou ga aru, etc.

Goals:
- To gain an understanding of Hinamatsuri event
- To be able to present what we have learned in class
Class Activities:
- To see Hina dolls and read an article regarding the transition of Japanese kimono styles
- To say, clearly and loudly, the historical flow of the Meiji era through WWII, which we learned before we heard Ms. Sueishi’s talk
- To read Ms’ Sueishi’s website
- To gain deeper understanding by connecting what we learned in own American school and what we present on the Class Performance Day.
