Theme for the month: Children's Day

Beginner Class 1 - Ms. Ozeki

Specific Lesson Goals:
- Learn how to write one's own full name neatly
- Participate in Children's Day's activities
- Make a present for Mother's Day
- Practice for the Sports Day

Class Activities:
- Craft: Origami carp streamer / Newspaper kabuto
- Make a Mother's Day card
- Reading game with hiragana cards

Grammar & Vocabulary:
- Become familiar with dakuon, voiced consonants; gohan, jidousya, zukan, zou, dachou, dendenmushi, donguri


Beginner Class 2 - Ms. Takakura

Specific Lesson Goals:
- Learn about the origins of Children's Day
- Craft for Mother's Day
- Participate in the Sports Day
- Learn to dictate a word or a sentence using hiragana, katakana and kanji learned in class

Class Activities:
- Craft: Origami carp streamer / Newspaper kabuto
- Make a Mother's Day card
- Game; put words together to make a sentence

Grammar & Vocabulary:
- koinobori ( carp barrens ) / kabuki ( Japanese warrior's helmet ) / magoi ( black carp ) / higoi ( golden red carp ) / kashiwamochi ( mochi with bean paste wrapped in an oak leaf)
- 王 ( king ), 草 ( grass ), 貝 ( shell ), 石 ( stone ), 立 ( stand ), 先 ( tip, point )


Intermediate Level Class - Ms. Sakamoto

Specific Lesson Goals:
- With the readings covered this school year, students will be able to recognize a set of words by its meaning and the font used; eventually, students will be able to read sentences with indicated punctuations only.

Class Activities:
- Create a “hinting” card by reading the study material that teaches coherent explanations.
- Dictation, quizzes and kanji drills.

Grammar & Vocabulary:
- Conjunctions, words to indicate logical orders, let’s explain, etc.


Advanced Level Class - Ms. Oota

Specific Lesson Goals:
- Express gratitude in writing.
- To be able to write your thoughts in an orderly manner so that readers can understand.
- Master the kanji characters the students have learned for second grade level both in writing and reading.
- Grasp the meaning of dictated writing.

Class Activities:
- Mother’s Day card making.
- Complete learning kanji characters for the second grade level
- Listen to sentences in the study material and grasp several main points of it.
- Pay attention to meaning breaks in a sentence.
- Take apart and put back Kanji characters.

Grammar & Vocabulary:
- I appreciate. I think ~ because, the important points are as follows: 1, 2.


AP Preparation Class - Ms. Miyajima

Specific Lesson Goals:
- Learn how to arrange a trip
- Learn about Japanese high school students't lifestyle
- Learn how to use keigo when asking a question or making a comment
- Learn how to write a thank you card

Class Activities:
- This month, we will have guest speakers, grandparents of our students who can speak authentic Okinawa dialect.

Grammar & Vocabulary:
- Review Four hundred ten essential kanji for AP test
