From Mochitsuki Committee
The annual Mochitsuki event was held on Jan 13. Blessed with the wonderful weather, we had a great turnout; 640 people showed up to join the event, which was 250 people more than last year! Thanks to your generous support, donations totaled nearly $1,200.
We were also grateful to have L.A. Matsuri Daiko perform for the event again this year. Their powerful performance was fantastic as usual!
This year we introduced a numbered ticket system to reduce long lines, and we added "Zenzai ( red bean soup ) to our mochi repertoire. Both worked very well and the event went smoothly and without any trouble.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers who worked so hard for the event, as well as preschool teachers and Saturday class teachers.
The proceeds will be used to replace the tools we have been using for a long time for past Mochitsuki events.
We hope that the Mochitsuki event will continue to bring all of us together again next year!
The KNI Bazaar will be held at Kodomo no Ie on Saturday, March 16.
The Parent Association is organizing this annual event, and the proceeds will go partly to the Parent Association, and partly to the relief fund for the Great East Japan Earthquake.
We are currently seeking donations from corporations as we received generous donations of merchandise from Sanrio and other companies in the past. If you know of any business contacts that might be interested in donating merchandise to our bazaar, please talk to the class reps or the Parent Association board members.
In February, we will start collecting donations such as picture books, toys, kids clothes and whatever you think would be suitable for the bazaar sale.
We will also sell baked goods and food at the bazaar, and we would appreciate it if you would consider baking some sweets for the event.
More details about the event will be distributed via email and the school bulletin board.
Akirasan's cooking class
We are happy to announce that the annual cooking class will be held in March,
thanks to continuous support from Akira Hirose, the owner chef of "Maison Akira" in Pasadena.
The chef will demonstrate
how to cook French food in the class. We will provide childcare
as well ( including younger children who are not KNI students). Your child can join the tasting with you. We are also thinking of providing the recipe in English
to participants who don't' speak Japanese. The class will be on one of Wednesdays in March before the spring break, from 8:45am to 11:30am. We will distribute more information ( the schedule, the fee, the menu ) on the school bulletin board and also by email.
This will be a great chance for you to learn how to cook French cuisine by a leading chef and try some recipes at home. Don't miss it!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank those who volunteered at the KNI Christmas Party as photographers and as part of the DVD production crew. Thank you for your cooperation!

We would like to thank those who ordered the KNI T-shirts.
We will have a second sale before the KNI Sports Day.
If you have any requests to add items, please feel free to talk to us.
In February, we will be conducting a new type of fundraising, a brochure catalogue fundraising
, as you might have seen one of those fundraising catalogues distributed at your local school. It includes cookie dough
, wrapping papers
, and more. Hope you will enjoy it!
