From the Sports Day event committee

The big Sports Day event takes place on Sunday, May 22nd. The children are really looking forward to the big day! I ask for your support to make this event a great success. Thanks to those of you who have already signed up to volunteer for the event. Your class mother(s) will be in touch with you with further details. As in the past, we are expecting our alumni high school volunteers to help us on the Sports Day. Please be sure to thank them for their effort if you see them around the school grounds. We have many events that are designed for non-KNI students including an event for toddlers, Saturday Japanese school students, and parents. We look forward to seeing you on the grounds participating in these events.

In Need of Canopy for the Sports Day

Every year, we have been having hot days for the Sports Day. We put canopies (E-Z up Tent) to avoide the sun. On the day, all the families will sit together under the each class canopies. In order to do so, we need more than 4 canopies (Sakura Class needs more than 6 canopies) for each class. If you own a canopy, it wil be great if you can let us use it! Thank you very much for your support!
If you can let us use the canopy, please sign up on the sheet by Tuesday, May 3rd. The Sign Up Sheet is located next to the attendance sheet. You also have the priority seating. Please make sure to bring the picnic seats to make priority seating section when you bring the canopy.

Due Date for the Sports Day Lunch Order

The Sports Day Lunch Order due date is on Saturday, May 7th. We are ordering the delicious lunch boxes from Tozai Market again this year. (Adult size $8.00, Kids size $5.50) Please check the details on the white board where attendance sheet is. We have posted the pictures of the lunches. Please note that we are not taking any orders or changes after the due date. Thank you for your understanding.

Additional notes:

We have reserved the Oak Avenue Middle School (Temple City) grounds for the Sports Day event. As many of you realize, parking lot spaces are limited. Therefore, many of you will be asked to park on the street to reserve the space inside for those hauling supplies. Please allow enough time for parking and walking over as not to be late for the event. Please be careful as parking on the street may require you to cross streets.

Chef Akira’s cooking class

We received rave reviews for the cooking class taught by Chef Akira (of Maison Akira in Pasadena) on Wednesday, March 16th. Post-class surveys revealed the attendees’ complete satisfaction with the class. Quite a few commented on how easy Chef Akira was to talk to and that they fully enjoyed the experience. Plenty of questions were asked during the cooking demonstration and everything went very smoothly with cheerful laughter bursting out at times.
Some of the comments heard were; “It was a wonderful cooking class!”, “It was a lot of fun!”, “I learned a lot”, “The food was so delicious.”

Many thanks to the cooking class committee members, Ms. Tomomi Taylor, Ms. Mayu Kou, Ms. Shiho Yobiko, Ms. Akiko Overlander, and Ms. Mari Carmichael, for all your hard work in organizing the event. This cooking class with Chef Akira is a one-of-a-kind event that is only available at KNI. The attendees were able to not only taste the first-rate quality meal, but also chat with the Chef. If you missed the event this year, please be sure to look out for the opportunity next year.

Update from PTA

We are accepting nominations and volunteers for our 2016-2017 school year board members and class mother positions. Please do not hesitate to speak to a class mother if you are interested.

From Fundraising committee

Thank you very much for all your T-shirt orders. We have distributed them before the Sports Day. We are looking forward to seeing all the wonderful colors displayed on the Sports Day. Thank you very much for participating. We also would like to thank you for your participation to our last fundrasing event of this school year, Scrip. We will deliver the orders in mid-May.
